A bug with gears to jump

These gears throw the insect in each jump
 
If you thought that mechanical gears were a human invention you'd be wrong! Baby Issus coleoptratus beetles (commonly known as planthoppers) have their own set of gears that lock the back legs together allowing for coordinated jumping. The acceleration reached is so powerful that any human would faint! Let's hope human toddlers don't get any ideas...
