Beluga knees and legs

Beluga whales are found in the Arctic and sub-Arctic oceans and in olden-times, sailors might have mistaken them for mermaids. When viewed from beneath, the distortion of viewing through water creates an illusion of human-like legs and knees above the tail. However, it's nothing fishy - just prominent flanks of the whale's blubber (fatty insulation)!
