Bill Gates climbed up positions to get the top world’s richest persons ranking in 2014, when his fortune was valued in 78,500 million dollars, a 20% more than in 2013. This increase was due to the 40% raise in his Microsoft and Canadian National Railway assets.
To have an idea about Bill Gates’ fortune: the Earth reached a total population of 7,2 billion in 2014. Taking into account the amount of money that Bill Gates has, which sums up to $78,500 millions, he could give each individual in Earth $10.90. If this wasn’t enough, if Bill Gates decided to donate on the well-known Habitat for Humanity organization and its famous 3 bedroom houses ($30.000 each), he could donate a total of 2 million houses. Meaning that, if in each house can live up to 5 people, he could give a new home to 10 million people.
William Henry Gates III was born in October 28th, 1955, in Seattle (Washington – USA). He’s a Harvard former student, founding Microsoft on April 4th, 1975. Nonetheless, he became a college dropout on 1976 and moved to Albuquerque to start negotiations for his programming language Basic and MITS. But it wasn’t until 1980 when IBM bought his operating system MS-DOS, but he had to wait until 1981 for his operating system to be installed in all IBM computers. However, Bill Gates is not only known because of owning Microsoft, but because of his talent and ability to innovate. In 1983 he introduced the fascinating idea of the computer mouse and the new graphic layer that substituted the actual MS-DOS, which turned out to be known as Microsoft Windows.
Even if he’s known as an entrepreneur and well-positioned business man, he was not recognized as a millionaire until 1986 when Microsoft started in the stock market, making him the richest man in USA. Since that time on, all were good news to him. His business was growing exponentially on all aspects, reaching 91,000 employers in more than 103 different cities in 2014.
Gates is an optimist, well-educated man, who dedicated part of his life to writing inspiring speeches for the community. He also loved to introduce big and revolutionary social changes. In 2006 he decided to quit his daily labour obligations in Microsoft to dedicate his time to the Gates Foundation. Gates Foundation is the biggest private foundation ever built, and some of its goals are to raise funds and spread the word in preventing HIV in India, or helping make the “one computer in each house” happen. Finally, on June 27th 2008, he completely abandoned Microsoft, leaving Steve Ballmer in charge. Since the day he left Microsoft, he has donated up to 28 million dollars to his foundation, and plans to eventually give 95% of its fortune.
