Elephants are scared of ants

Elephants avoid feeding from trees that are home to colonies of ants. Scientists hypothesise that the elephants are alerted to the ants' presence by the smell of the insects. It is thought the fear stems from the elephants' dislike of the sensation of the ants crawling up, or biting, the inside of their highly sensitive trunks.
