Elysia Chlorotica, the solar-powered sea slug

Along the shores of the United States’ Eastern seaboard is the Elisya Chlorotica. This emerald green leaf-shaped slug punctures and feeds on the chloroplast cell of the yellow-green algae, Vaucheria litorea. From this consumption, the slug’s chromosomes have the genetic code from the algae for chloroplast proteins and chlorophyll synthesis for them to thrive. The offspring receive this genetic code. They feed for about two weeks for one year. It’s the only known animal that can do this. That ain’t too sluggish!
