Eucalyptus trees smell amazing: a gentle minty menthol aroma hangs around their leaves and bark, and crushing a leaf enhances the scent. But eucalyptus oil is highly flammable and when there is a bush fire near a eucalyptus tree the oil fumes can superheat causing the whole tree to explode into flames. Given that these trees are native to Australia, very fire prone region, this is one sinus clearing event that might be a little too extreme for most!
