The Galapagos Islands are famous for their tortoises, but Floreana Island features a remarkable Post Office. In the 1700s, whaling ships used the island as a stop-off point and sailors desired a way to send messages home. A barrel was placed and returning sailors delivered messages on their way home, for no fee. However, the tradition continues and thousands of postcards are delivered by tourists.
