People come from all over to marvel at the 630-feet-tall arch that has towered above St Louis in the United States since 1965. In addition to admiring Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen's design, many are intrigued to discover each leg holds a lift to carry sightseers to its peak. But unlike an ordinary elevator, its carriages dangle like ski lift seats to get round the bend.
