Dr. Spencer Silver may have failed to produce a super-glue for 3M, but he stumbled onto a reusable self-stick adhesive. His colleague, Alan Fry, got on board to drive development, and the post-it note was born in 1979. Even the iconic yellow colour was an accidental choice - the test team could only find yellow scrap paper.
