Justo Gallego Martinez's cathedral in Madrid

Nuestra Señora del Pilar is a cathedral-in-progress that began more than 50 years ago, in 1961. A former monk named Justo Gallego Martinez has been constructing, almost on his own, this magnificent structure without any planning permission or benediction of church authority. The 40m high building is being created with no formal plans but with inspiration from others such as St. Peter's Basilica and the White House.
