With a million hairs per square inch, otters have the most dense fur in the animal kingdom so do not need the insulating thick layer of body fat every other marine mammal uses to stay warm at sea. However such a thick coat requires constant grooming so time saved on eating is instead spent floating on their backs combing their hair.
