Plants scream when they are suffering

  • Tomatoes cut
If we heard ultrasound maybe we wouldn't eat tomatoes

New research from plant scientists at Tel Aviv University in Israel, Itzhak Khait and his workmates, suggests that a plant that is stressed by physical damage or drought may let out ultrasonic squeals. They studied tomato and tobacco plants, and stated that while in well-being status they can only be heard once per hour, when they're suffering they squeak 14 to 25 times in the same period. Imagine the uproar when preparing a salad!
