Platypus are cute but venomous

The platypus is an odd creature, with its duck-like bill, ability to lay eggs despite being a mammal, thick fur and fat tail, but there is another strange attribute to add to this list: the males have venomous spurs on their hind legs. It’s thought that the spurs, which only produce venom in the spring, are to enhance a fight with another male at breeding time. Fortunately, no human fatalities have been caused by platypus venom to date.
