Carrots are orange due to Royal Orange family in Netherlands

Think carrots are orange? Well, they are, but they were also traditionally many other colours too. Prior to the seventeenth century, carrots were predominantly white, and purple as well. Nevertheless, the orange hue in our beloved carrots comes from the interest that royal family Orange put to intentionally obtain a variety with their last name's shade to align with the Netherlands' national colour. Lucky them they weren't called the Rainbow family!
