The fastest ants in the world could overtake a kid

  • Silver Saharan ant very fast
Silver Saharan ants seem to be propelled!

Cataglyphis bombycina, or the Saharan silver ant could hardly be better adapted for the blisteringly hot and challenging nature of its habitat. Indeed, in the time a clock's second hand moves, this ant, despite having comparatively short legs and the yielding properties of sand, will scurry almost a metre, faster than a kid's pace and, in relation to the ants' size, it would be equivalent to your cat running at 190 km/h and easily overtaking cars in the highway!
