Cataglyphis bombycina, or the Saharan silver ant could hardly be better adapted for the blisteringly hot and challenging nature of its habitat. Indeed, in the time a clock's second hand moves, this ant, despite having comparatively short legs and the yielding properties of sand, will scurry almost a metre, faster than a kid's pace and, in relation to the ants' size, it would be equivalent to your cat running at 190 km/h and easily overtaking cars in the highway!
