When threatened, the hognose snake first tries to act tough by puffing out its body and hissing at its potential predator. If this mighty display fails to fend off an owl or opossum, the hognose turns to theatrics and flips over on its back, tongue hanging out of its mouth, even spits blood! and then it looks comically deceased. The hognose deserves to live, and deserves an award!
