This spooky sounding instrument is the creation of the Soviet inventor Léon Theremin. Formed of two antennae on a control box, the musician plays the theremin by moving their hands closer and further from the antennae. The sound is so ethereal that the theremin was the chosen instrument for the Yevpatoria Planetary Radar's 2001 broadcast into space.
