Blue eyes in white cats are so linked to deafness, that even white cats with two different coloured eyes will likely be deaf in the ear on the same side as the blue eye. This genetic difference is known as congenital sensorineural deafness. Deafness occurs in around 20 percent of white, non-blue eyed cats. This increases to as much as 85% for white blue-eyed cats.
