Before tape cassette recorders, music fans in 1950s USSR were hard-put to obtain banned songs. While it was possible to make bootleg records, blank vinyl was hard to come by. Enterprising record collectors came up with a solution: they salvaged old X-ray film from hospitals and trimmed it into X-ray discs. Some of this X-ray audio still survive today.
