In Japan, Yubari King melons can retail at $50-100 each and some are auctioned for thousands of dollars. Grown in volcanic ash and harvested by hand, these deliciously sweet premium melons are a cross between two kinds of cantaloupe. The industry is so successful that the coal mining industry in Yubari has collapsed and there is even a Yubari-flavoured KitKat available!
