When young grey-headed flying foxes, an Australian species of megabat, are completely furred and often too heavy for their mothers to carry, they spend their nights in a creche tree chosen for its position towards the centre of the colony. The adult females fly out after dark to feed on fruit, nectar and pollen before returning to suckle their young.
