On Christmas Island, you would think the event of the year would be December 25th when in fact the biggest annual event has nothing to do with Christmas at all. In the wet season literally tens of millions of red crabs will march across the island in an effort to reach the sea so they can lay their eggs. The island has adapted as much as possible to keep the crabs safe with dedicated crossing and traffic detours during the migration.
