It's not just humans who get itchy feet and want to see the world. A species of ant, known as the Argentine ant (Linepithema humile), has become established in six continents. Research in 2009 by the Insectes Sociaux discovered that these 'hitch-hiking' ants are genetically related: Angentine supercolonies along the Californian coast in America, the West coast of Japan and along the Mediterranean coast in Europe are members of the very same ant family, so they're relatives to each other.
