Hospitals in Japan omit floors four and nine for an understandable reason. The Japanese word for four sounds like the word for death, while 'nine' sounds like 'pain'. Neither a pleasant thought during a hospital visit. Room 42 is also avoided as it sounds like the phrase 'get ready to die'. Let's hope the San Francisco 49ers never pop over to cheer up the patients!
