Lions and tigers do not exist in the same areas – the former prefers open habitats whereas the latter live in the forests. But they do get along very well in captivity, where they sometimes breed. A liger, which is the largest big cat, is a cross between a tigress and a male lion. A tigon is the offspring of a male tiger bred with a lioness. Funny (or scary) bit comes when the gene that inhibits the growth is transmitted only by lioness and male tigers, so that ligers don't have it at all and keep growing all their lives! On the other hand, tigons remain quite smaller than their parents.
