Is it a pig? No it’s a squid! With its endearing “grin”, which is actually pigmentation, crazy hairdo, which is actually modified tentacles, and rotund, almost transparent 10cm body, the piglet squid is a real cutie. A native of the deeper regions of the Pacific Ocean, this rarely-seen creature is able to stay afloat by using an ammonium chloride-filled sac. This salt solution is less dense than seawater and helps the squid to bob about like a living balloon.
