Twice a year, in a stunning display of mathematical and architectural brilliance, Spain's Palma Cathedral is illuminated during an event known as 'the spectacle of the eight'. Occurring on 2 February and 11 November, the cathedral's large rose window projects sunlight beneath the smaller rose window on the opposite wall, displaying a colourful figure of 8.
