The Arabidopsis plant is a mathematical genius. While manufacturing its daily food supply during daylight, how does it supply enough food for nighttime? With long division. Really. The Arabidopsis measures every day its starch reserve and divides it by the remaining hours of expected darkness. It's been tested that, when night comes earlier than usual, the plant readjusts the supply to again make the reserves last until the usual dawn time. However, scientists are still figuring out how the plants can possibly make the maths.
