Snakes don’t have visible ears, but that doesn’t mean they are unaware of noises. Instead of listening for airborne sounds, they sense what's around them by feeling vibrations through their jaw bone. The vibrations travel through the ground or air to the snake’s jaw and on to their inner ear which exists in the skull. The animal has learnt over time which vibrations mean foe and which ones mean lunch!
