Worms with three sexes If a special species of worm cannot get a date, it does not mope about it: it makes a plan! A species of nematode has been discovered that has three sexes: male, female and hermaphrodites that can procreate on their own if needed. This means that in the absence of either males or females, the species can continue, even if they were down to the final specimen. Still weirder: A male with a female will have only female offspring, while hermaphrodites on its own will have either hermaphrodites or females, and hermaphrodites with males will give males. Imagine the family tree!
