At first, scientists misinterpreted the red stain of Bloody Falls in Antarctica as water discoloured by algae. Environmentalists might joke the cliffs bleed red water as a result of damage to mother nature. Thankfully, the truth is less gruesome. The effect is due to iron in the saltwater rusting when it comes into contact with air.
