If you look into the eyes of a black-necked grebe you may find yourself entranced by its red hypnotic gaze. The contrast is all the more striking due to the black feathers around their neck (hence their name). Grebes are a highly gregarious bird so it is quite an uneasy experience when they all look at you with such striking eyes.
