Sometimes, compared to an avalanche of snow sliding down a rockface, Icelandic fog waterfalls are a freak weather phenomenon caused by fog flowing from cold air into warm. When it meets warm air, the fog cascades downwards to sea level, giving the impression of a tumultuous waterfall. A keen wind adds an audio soundtrack to complete the illusion.
