Ever wondered how people sent coded messages to each other in the ancient world? One was with the use of a scytale, which was a cylindrical ciphering tool, not dissimilar to a bakers roll. Popular with the ancient Greeks, particularly the Spartans, the scytale was an excellent way of sending communications across the battlefield due to its simplicity to code and decode (only if you had a similar bar!).
