The United States of America (USA) is the third biggest country of the world, with a total area of 9.826.675 km2. It’s important to point out that a 32% of that total area belongs to the Federal Government.
USA’s capital is Washington D.C., but its more populated city is New York. Its official language is English although there are also other languages spoken such as French, Spanish or Hawaiian. On the other hand, it also has the world’s largest economy, representing one fourth of the total GDP.
USA is also known for a great list of things, and we can highlight: For being the “most important country in the world”, or for its technological advances, its tourism… In fact, it’s first on the scientific investigation and technological innovation list. It possesses important patents such as the telephone by Graham Bell, the phonograph by Edison, the electric current by Tesla, the radio… and many more other important scientist such as Einstein. All of them recognized for helping and contributing with their knowledge to make a difference in all human beings lives.
USA is widely proud of its patriotism as well. A great percentage of their population still sing their anthem first thing in the morning and pull up the flag at their homes. Since their independence was declared on the famous 4th of July of 1776, this day was declared as a national holiday and the country dresses up as the American flag. Other recognized national holidays are Halloween and Thanksgiving.
USA is often linked with the fast food. It’s one of the countries with more obese people. This is because most of the agricultural and healthy food is very expensive, but meat with high levels of fat is quite cheaper. Another fact that most of us are not aware of is their unemployment rate, since 20% of their population live under the poverty range. Even if it has one of the best public education systems, their sanitary one is completely private, having to pay about 750 dollars monthly. It also has the longest list of captures, which can be related to the strict laws enforced by the government in order to fight against possession of guns and drugs.
Regarding sports, baseball is always considered the national sport, but American football is largely more popular. Basketball and ice hockey are also part of their usual daily routines.
