Getting up close and personal with a volcano isn't for everyone. However, for those for whom the thrill of the scenery surpasses the risk of a final encounter with molten rock and scorching ash, volcano tourism is a real possibility. Hawaii's Big Island has five of them, including the renowned Kilauea, which has been disgorging red-hot lava for over thirty years. The resulting lava fountains are beautiful, particularly after dark and, to date, there is no sign of an imminent explosion.
