Matrjoschka is one of the longest movies in the history of cinema and lasts 5,700 minutes or 95 hours, same as 3.95 days.
It is a film directed and produced by the German artist Karin Hoerler. It was premiered in 2006 in Frankfurt (Germany), in the 2006 light show Luminale. It was projected on an outdoor LED screen of 100 m2 and it began on April 23, 2006 at 6am and ended on April 28, at 1am The projection of the movie was only stopped once to take a break from 1am to 6am. Currently, it’s only available on DVD.
Matrjoschka is based on a single image sequence. It shows a child on a bicycle, in the street, some houses, some garages and the sky. Over time, the image changes but the movements are displayed in very slow motion and therefore are not visible with a naked eye.
