Avatar the most fundrising movie ever

One of the most expensive movies in history is Avatar, since it had a total budget of $237 million and eventually it was rumored that in the end it summed up to $280 or even $310 million. But the producer, 20th Century Fox, has never confirmed that point. However, if this movie had been shot in 1999, when Cameron wrote the story, its would have cost more than $400 million, since the necessary technology was not available at that time. Avatar raised an estimated amount of $2,800 million, which significantly exceeds the cost of filming and production. In fact, only on the first day after its release, it raised $27 million, reaching $241 million on its first weekend. After 3 weeks, it became the movie that recollected more money in history, surpassing Titanic, which interestingly enough, James Cameron produced it as well. It was not only widely recognized by the general public, but it also won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects, Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography. Furthermore, it was also one of the first films to be released in 3D.

Avatar was filmed in 2009 and was directed by James Cameron. It is a science fiction film starring Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana and set in the year 2154 with a duration of 162 minutes. The story unfolds in a moon of the planet Polyphemus called Pandora, inhabited by a humanoid race called the Na'vi. Humans are in conflict because their families are settling in the tree that would be the solution to all energy problems on Earth, the elunobtainium. A Marine who became paraplegic, Jake Sully, is chosen to transport his mind to artificial bodies to communicate with the Na'vi. Jake is able to fulfill its mission, but falls in love with a native girl, realizing that they will never abandon their land. Consequently, he is forced to decide on which side to position, human race or the Na'vi.

Interestingly, James Cameron wrote the novel 15 years before it was shot, hoping to make it a reality in the future. This moment came after watching Gollum in the "Lord of the Rings", when he realized that the CGI technology had reached a sufficient level to bring realism to this type of character. To make the Avatar world as realistic as possible, James Cameron and his production team lived with a Hawaiian tribe that had a similar lifestyle as the Na'vi. In fact, Avatar’s main characters also visited them for several days to adapt to their movements. As for the recording, it was done in the Gulf of Mexico and was subsequently published in photo-realistic displays. Only 40% of the scenes are completely real.

Before the movie premiere, James Cameron was not the only one who believed in the Avatar’s success, but great directors like Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson and George Lucas also agreed with Cameron before releasing it.
