In 2009 scientist Katherine Krynak spotted a small spiky tree frog while collecting specimens with her husband Tim in the Equadorian rainforest. It was Tim's job to photograph the specimens but there was only a smooth-skinned frog in the container that was supposed to hold the spiny specimen Katherine was so excited about. That is how the world's only known shape-shifting amphibian was found, the Pristimantis Mutabilis.
