In March 2014, the Koenigsegg One reached a speed of 450 km/h at Geneva’s Motor Show. Consequently a new world speed record was set and the Koenigsegg became one of the fastest cars in the world.
The Koenigsegg One was built to commemorate Swedish brand Koenigsegg’s 20th anniversary. It’s important to point out that only 6 units were produced for this series. Surprisingly, all of them were sold even before publishing the sale price. However, the Koenigsegg One will not make it into the Guinness World Records awards since in order to do so, a brand needs to market more than 30 units.
The Koenigsegg One is a 1,360hp car, with a turbo 5-liter V8 engine that includes a dual, 7-speed, clutch transmission. Given that this car weighs 1,360 kg, it means that each horsepower must move a kilo of weight. This equation was previously thought of impossible, but achieving this new goal, the Koenigsegg One also became the first “mega car”, as it has a power of 1 Mega Watt (1360hp). Thus, its 1 Mega Watt, also explains its name, “One”.
In order to help you imagine the speed this car can reach, let’s bring up a real situation. From Barcelona to La Coruña there are 1088km. Without exceeding permitted speeds and making no stops, it would take around 8-9 hours to get from one place to the other one. Nevertheless, if the Koenigsegg One keeps maximum speed all the way long, it would be able to get there in 2.4 hours.
Other unique features about this car are that it accelerates from 0 to 400km/h in just 20 seconds. However, their most important goal when it came to designing this new car, it was achieving maximum effectiveness on the road and not maximum speed. In order to do so, they focused on weight reduction, aerodynamics and chassis configuration. They used 20% more carbon fiber than in their previous car, the Koenigsegg Agera. To make sure their goal was reached, they even used Formula 1 prototypes with titanium exhausts and alloy wheels.
Another record obtained by this car is about the active adjustable dampers and springs. These can absorb lateral forces up to 2G, which is definitely a new threshold in the automobile world.
