The Ferrari 250 GTO became the most expensive car after being sold in 2013 for 52 million dollars(38 million euros), the same amount earned by Cristiano Ronaldo in 2013.
The Ferrari 250 GTO is a sport-racing car that was built in 1963 to compete in the “24h Le Mans Circuit”. It first belonged to the collector Paul Pappalardo, who bought the car in 1974 and restored it so it could compete, once again, at the famous Le Mans circuit in 2002. The high price of 38 million euros doubles the price of the private plane Bombardier Challenger 605 for 13 passengers. This is not only due to the large number of past achievements in competitions such as the Tour of France, won by the rider Jean Guichet, but because of the few existing units produced. There were a total of 39, making each vehicle unique and irreplaceable.
The price of the Ferraris of the 50s and 60s continues to grow exponentially, ranking them among the most expensive cars in history. Some evidence that proves the enormous value that this Ferrari has for many collectors, investors and speculators is the fact that the musician Nick Mason, from the famous Pink Floyd group, has turned down offers of 30 or 40 million dollars for his Ferrari 250 GTO.
The number 250 of the Ferrari 250 GTO makes reference to its capacity in cubic centimeters, while GTO means “Gran Turismo Omologata” in Italian, or Certified Gran Turismo in English. Sergio Scaglietti designed the car, which stands out for its excellent features: Two seats, manual 5-speed transmission, 4.4 meters long, 1.68 m. width and 1.2 m. high. With a total weight of 880 kg and with a front V12 engine of 3.0L gas, it is capable of reaching a maximum output of 300HP and a maximum speed of 280 km/h. Its rear-wheel drive, front and rear tires of 250-TR/59, its special cooling liquid and brake discs both front and rear, this car turned to be one of the most competitive in its time and one of the most precious and wonderful machines made by the Ferrari brand.
